Workshop on the Implementation of the HERCA-WENRA Approach

In October 2014, WENRA and HERCA (Heads of the European Radiological Protection Competent Authorities) agreed on a common HERCA-WENRA Approach for better cross-border coordination of protective actions during the early phase of a nuclear accident.

This approach contains overarching principles and provides an incentive for joint actions between neighboring countries. The members have committed to engage a cooperation at national level with the competent authorities in charge of civil protection for the implementation of the corresponding measures.

In this framework, HERCA and WENRA associations organise this first-of-a-kind workshop in order to encourage cooperation with national civil protection authorities from Europe. The workshop will be held in Bled, Slovenia, on 14-15 June 2016.

Based on the evidence that coordination and harmonisation of approaches during the initial hours of an accident are essential, the objectives of the meeting are to share experience on the implementation of the HERCA-WENRA Approach, to discuss issues identified and to define steps for addressing them.
