The ENSREG meeting (24th November 2015) discussed the implementation of Art 8a of the Nuclear Safety Directive and invited WENRA to provide guidance on the question of “timely implementation of reasonably practicable safety improvements to existing nuclear power plants”.
A WENRA Ad-Hoc Group was established in April 2016 to bring forward a guidance paper on the “timely implementation of reasonably practicable safety improvements to existing nuclear power plants” (Article 8 a). The UK agreed to Chair the group with members from Finland, Germany, France, Hungary and Switzerland. It was agreed the guidance should be finalised prior to the implementation date for the Nuclear Safety Directive in August 2017.
The guidance was submitted to ENSREG mid-June 2017 and approved in ENSREG’s 34th meeting (27th June 2017).
